Fraser was our sweet, gentle, polite Canadian boy. We will always call him Songdog’s Only Son, because he was our first male ever and probably our last. No other will ever be able to follow in his pawprints. A strong, powerful boy, he was as gentle as the proverbial lamb. As young as two years old his calm, easy going disposition was welcomed at nursing homes, where he especially liked to charm the ladies. In fact, Fraser charmed all women. He had a certain charisma among females, who found him irresistible. His good looks also allowed him to finish his championship easily and earn some Group Firsts.
But Fraser did so love his birds! An awesome retriever, he was once described as “stable but flashy”. He earned his UKC HRCH title in 6 consecutive tests and passed his first Master test a week later. He was so beautiful to watch in the field. At the line he sat as tall and straight as he could, sometimes with paws dancing, just waiting for the marks to fall and be released. His power and grace when returning with a bird were striking.
Fraser also loved baking cookies, sleeping upside down, and making high, twisting leaps to catch a bumper. He was Gusty’s “big brother” who showed her the ropes and kept an eye on her. Fraser was a mellow fellow who simply loved everyone. He was one good boy.
